Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What is counseling all about?
A. Counseling provides individuals and families an opportunity to work on individual goals in order to improve their quality of life.  Counseling at The Complete Counseling Center involve an eclectic approach using several theories such as cognitive, choice, behavioral and family systems theory to assist clients with their issues and guide them toward their goals.  Clients are systematically evaluated and assessed and a counseling plan is developed based on their individual presentation and needs.

Q. What should I do to prepare for our first appointment?
A. To make the best use of our time together, please complete the paperwork for new clients ahead of time, and put together a list of any questions you have, so we can address any concerns during our first session.

Q. What happens at our first appointment?
A. Our first appointment is an opportunity for us to get to know one another and gather information. We usually schedule a longer meeting (1.5 hours) to make sure we have ample time. Our goal will be to get to know you and to learn about your story. You will be asked questions about why you seeking counseling now, and what are you hoping to change.  You will also be able to address any questions you may have. We will discuss the risks and benefits of counseling and the limits of confidentiality.   We’ll finish by deciding whether we will begin working together, and if so, we'll set preliminary goals and decide how frequently to meet.

Q. What if you are not a good fit for me?
A. Fit is really important and not every counselor-client combination is right. If we’re not a good fit, we won’t take it personally.  We’ll do everything we can to help you find a counselor who’s a better match for you.

Q. What’s special about your practice?
A.  We are warm, relatable, and approachable. We will take time to understand where you have been, what has and hasn’t worked for you in the past, and how those things affect you now.  We will guide you through the process so you can explore your issues and decide what is best for you.  We are not in the business of "fixing" people or telling them how to run their lives.  Instead we will provide a safe and caring environment and will journey with you through the self-discovery process.

Q. What happens at future appointments?
A. After the first appointment, we will both have a better understanding of what approaches to take, so we will begin to have more focused conversations specifically addressing those areas of most importance to you. We encourage clients to learn all that they can about the areas that we are working on. Often we will recommend books, films, or articles to support you in your learning.  After the first appointment we will develop a plan to use as a guide to assist you on your journey.

Q. How often will I need to see you?
A. The answer is different for every client so we’ll decide together what makes sense for you. We may meet every week, every other week, or once a month. And, we may meet for a few months, a full year, or longer, depending upon your needs. Some clients even schedule “tune ups” once a year just to stay focused on their progress after therapy concludes.

Q. What are your fees?
A. Payment by cash, check or money order is due at the beginning of each session. Fees are $90 per hour. However, a sliding scale is available in certain situations. We encourage you to have your checks written out before our session begins so that we can get the most out of our time together.

Q. Do you accept insurance?
A. We do not bill insurance companies directly or take responsibility for collecting from your insurance carrier. However, we will provide you with receipts that you may submit to your insurance company. Many insurance companies will cover 50% to 75% of our fee. You may contact your insurance company for specific details of your coverage.
